DAY 2 JUDGING

Performance Period Correct Mods

We are setting the standard by recognizing period correct quality authentic Day 2 automobiles and offering proper exhaustive standard judging, geared specifically toward these historical cars.

WHAT IS DAY 2?

Back in the day, people purchased Muscle Cars for the speed and for the image. Right off the showroom floor these cars were exciting, but as every gearhead knows…if a little is good, more is better.

Many owners modified their cars as money and time permitted. Some fortunate owners had a dealership nearby, such as Nickey Chevrolet, Grand Spaulding Dodge, Gibb Chevrolet, Yenko Chevrolet, Royal Pontiac, Dana Chevrolet, Baldwin-Motion or others, who were willing and able to modify cars right in their service department. Many people would also perform modifications themselves within days of purchase.

These cars became known as "Day 2" cars.

At MCACN, we recognize and celebrate authentic, period correct Day 2 automobiles with a judging program specifically built around these historically significant cars.

What Qualifies as a Day 2 Car?

A Day 2 car has been modified using ONLY period correct parts, equipment, and techniques available within a few years of the vehicle’s original production date.

For MCACN judging purposes, Day 2 focuses specifically on performance-oriented modifications—not comfort or cosmetic upgrades.

Examples of Day 2 Modifications
  • Vintage aftermarket wheels and tires

  • Headers and glass pack mufflers

  • Air shocks and traction bars

  • Scatter shields

  • Gauges and Steering wheels

  • Vintage valve covers and air cleaners

  • Intake manifolds and carburetors

  • Period correct distributors and ignition components

  • Speed shop decals and chrome-plated components

  • Period correct engine swaps

  • Custom paint and interiors from the era

What Judges Look For

At MCACN, a Day 2 entry should either be:

  • a high-level restoration

  • or a well-preserved unrestored example

Judges look for authentic period-correct performance modifications that reflect what enthusiasts would realistically have built during the era.

To qualify for Day 2 judging:

  • Vehicles must have a minimum of three period correct modifications

  • All modifications must be era appropriate

  • VIN must match the vehicle being presented

  • Cars with altered, replaced, covered, or questionable VINs will not be judged

There is no maximum number of modifications allowed, provided the overall build remains period correct.

What Is NOT Considered Day 2?

Day 2 is not:

  • a modernized build using currently available aftermarket parts

  • a shortcut restoration

  • a stock car with an engine swap

  • a clone or tribute car

  • a car modified primarily for comfort or appearance

Examples of non-qualifying modifications include:

  • modern aftermarket performance parts

  • modern wheel/tire combinations

  • air conditioning conversions

  • non-period seats

  • non-period styling modifications

If the judges have concerns regarding authenticity or period correctness, the vehicle will not be judged as a Day 2 entry.
