Out in Nampa, Idaho is a very special shop called Charley Hutton’s Color Studio. Through the doors of this shop have come some of the absolute best Street Rods along with some very significant Muscle Machines. Charley Hutton may be most recognized as the low key Body Shop Supervisor from the television show American Hot Rod with Boyd Coddington. Charley left Boyd’s shop to work with Chip Foose, who clearly knows talent when he sees it! Anyway, fast forward to today and we find Charley with his own shop that has clearly established itself as one of the best in the country.
Charley is known for his incredible paint jobs and he has painted numerous Ridler Award contenders, including the 2012 winner and way too many other cars that you have seen on TV and in magazines to list. So how does that tie into MCACN? Well, as some of you know, we are honored to be one of the very few places where you can see some of the rarest and finest cars from The Brothers Collection. Since our inception, The Brothers Collection has shown several very real Hemi ‘Cuda convertibles, four of the six ‘69 Trans Am convertibles we had in the show last year, some absolutely incredible unrestored originals and more. We are truly honored to be the show of choice for The Brothers Collection! This year, you will again see some absolutely stunning cars from this collection, including the real 69.5 440+6 Roadrunner that was driven by Ronnie Sox in Super Stock magazine back in '69, a very real 1969 Hemi Roadrunner convertible, one of the 1967 L/88 Corvettes we are featuring and something very unique. Just out of Charley Hutton’s Color Studio paint booth is the Cherokee Camaro shown above. This wild convertible 396/375 horse beast has so many one-off and unusual features that you just have to see it up close and in person. After spending numerous years in Wisconsin, The Brothers added this car to their collection and immediately sent it to Idaho. After extensive research, Charley embarked on an extensive restoration, (YES...he does a whole lot more than just paint!) and the results are sure to be incredible. Restoring cars is one thing...bringing a factory design study back to its former glory is another! Although the car was basically intact and quite presentable as it was, it indeed deserved a top notch restoration.
*Note that the Sneak Peek photo above is before
the restoration. You will have to come to the 2013
MCACN show to see the fresh restoration unveiled!
The Cherokee itself is worth the price of admission to the upcoming Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, but to make things even better, we are pleased to announce that Charley Hutton will be joining us Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24th. We will be unveiling The Cherokee Saturday morning, and Charley will be the one pulling the cover off! You will never meet a nicer and more talented “Car Guy” than Charley. With years of producing the Best of the Best, he still is just a regular guy who loves this hobby as much as we do. Make it a point of meeting Charley at our show, and be sure to bring the kids because he is a real inspiration, and he may just be able to plant the seed for our future generation.
Of note is an upcoming televison series on the Velocity Channel. The Velocity Channel does the Mecum Auction Muscle Cars and More shows, so you know this will be cool! The show will kick off September 13 with a feature on the big Bloomington Gold Corvette show.
There will be 13 episodes and several will feature MCACN Sponsors and long time supporters starting with Mid America Motorworks with the focus on the awesome Corvette Funfest show, (coming up September 19-22), and Carlisle Events big Corvettes at Carlisle show. Here is a link to the Press Release from Mid America Motorworks; Be sure to watch all of the episodes, you may just be in one of them! Congrats to all of you who have participated in these shows, they are sure to raise awareness of this awesome hobby of ours!
