I often say, we are truly honored to be able to have the best of the best as Official Sponsors for the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show. When it comes to restoration shops, the long list of national awards bestowed upon Ken Mosier and his team at The Finer Details is a prime example. Although known for the many Mopars they have restored over the past 20+ years, they also have restored some pretty cool non Mopars! I recently stopped by their new location in Danville, Indiana, and quite simply, was blown away! A former Pontiac dealership is the new home for Ken’s “House of Horsepower” and to say the place is cool is a major understatement. Truly state of the art with over 20,000 square feet, the service department serves as the heart of the restoration area, while the showroom houses an incredible collection of memorabilia, awards and of course, awesome cars! You see, in addition to restoring cars to their original glory, Ken and his team are also selling choice collector cars right out of this showroom. When I was there, I saw a sweet Max Wedge powered Plymouth, the award winning B5 Blue AAR, (that one recently went to its new home), a 1971 Challenger Official Pace Car and more. Also on display, but not for sale, was the beautiful 1969 426 Hemi Charger 500, owned by Bill Winkle and shown at MCACN in The Finer Details display. Ken will be taking this one out to the big All Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle, Pennsylvania this weekend, so be sure to check it out.
So....what else did I see that you will see at MCACN this year? Quite a bit! An In Violet ‘70 ‘Cuda that is well underway, featuring a 440+6 under the hood was on one side while over on the other was another E-body, and it has a top that goes down! I also understand there is a very special Challenger R/T with some amazing history, (also Plum Crazy) that might be unveiled...think Mr. Norm’s Grand Spaulding Dodge! As always, we can count on seeing some fine and fresh restorations in The Finer Details display, which as always, will be right up front.
Ken has been enjoying an incredibly busy year with no end in sight, so be sure to see what they can do for you. Oh...and “in the wings” I saw a very real Pontiac GTO Judge convertible, several other Hemi Mopars and more, but you’ll have to talk to Ken about those. If you are heading to the Carlisle All Chrysler Nationals, look for that B5 blue over blue Hemi Charger 500 and I can assure you, Ken will be nearby. Whether you are looking for a full award winning restoration, new old stock parts or maybe even one of the fine collectible cars he has available, be sure to talk to him and plan on seeing another big display at the MCACN show when we return to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, (greater Chicago), Illinois, November 22-23, 2014.
This is going to be another big weekend for car enthusiasts. I am headed out to Carlisle and will be on the hunt for some prime Hemi powered Mopars for our 50th Anniversary Hemi Invitational display Sponsored by Magnum Auto Restorations and also some wild color Mopars for our “Color My World” Invitational display, sponsored by The Wellborn Muscle Car Museum and G & L Guitars. I am especially looking for some glowing GreenGo/Sassy Grass cars and also Petty/Basin Street Blue cars, as they are the only High-impact colors I am lacking as of today. We will be working with one of the magazines to do a very special shoot, so if you want to be a part of some more MCACN history in the making, let’s get you signed up. I will have applications for cars and vendors with me, so don’t hesitate...lock things up now! Of course, applications are also being accepted through our website, so if you can’t make it to Carlisle, go to www.mcacn.com right now. And as if that isn’t enough to do, I will also be heading over to the Mopar Hall of Fame induction ceremony Saturday night, which is put together by our good friends at Mopar Collectors Guide magazine. The MCACN show is among the esteemed Official Sponsors, so we are pumped up to have a great night with some truly legendary people. Summer is the time to make the most of the great weather, especially for those of us that just suffered through the worst winter ever. Get out there and share your passion with someone who may not know just how much fun we have and how great the people who live it are! When you see a younger person checking out your car, offer to let them sit in it, or if you can, take them for a ride. I know that I still remember to this day my first ride in a 1969 L78 4-speed Chevelle like it was yesterday. Let’s plant the seed so that this great hobby lasts!
Hoping to see you at one of the shows soon.
