ANOTHER GREAT WEEKEND FOR CAR FOLKS;
BLOOMINGTON GOLD & SLOAN MUSEUM AUTO FAIR TOP THE LIST!
With the kick-off of summer last weekend, we are now deep into the outdoor car show season for those of us living in a seasonal climate. No matter where you are, there are most likely a variety of worthwhile car related events happening. Among the many choices are some that I consider absolute must do events. This weekend there are two; the big Bloomington Gold Corvette show in Champaign, Illinois and the Sloan Auto Fair in Flint, Michigan.
If you are a Corvette enthusiast, then clearly the place to be this weekend is Champaign, Illinois. Bloomington Gold can trace its roots back to 1973, when a group of Corvette enthusiasts gathered in Bloomington, Illinois, to display their cars and swap extra parts with one another. They called it the Bloomington Corvette Corral, a one-day show on a two-acre section of the McLean County Fairgrounds. It was a hit from the start, with 1,500 people in attendance, 112 Corvettes shown in the Concours show and 19 vendors with parts and products at $3.00 per space. Spectator admission to the show was just a buck. Fast forward over 40 years, and long time MCACN participant and supporter Guy Larsen and his team host what is one of the largest and coolest Corvette events in the world. I call it an “event” because it is much more than just a show. They also host a big Gold Market, a long list of seminars, the Gold Tour, the Gold Mine with Corvettes for sale, an Gold Autocross and the Great Hall induction ceremony, acknowledging ten great cars and ten great people that have made major contributions to our hobby.
For me, my favorite part is seeing the incredible variety of Corvettes of all generations. The Gold Field, where the judging takes place, is where you will find literally hundreds of restored and factory original Corvettes in a beautiful setting. Watching the judging process is pretty neat, as these folks really know their stuff. To achieve Bloomington Gold status is something to be proud of, and of course, it gets you one step closer to being eligible to compete for Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Triple Diamond status! Our Corvette Central Triple Diamond display and competition is reserved strictly for the best of the best factory stock Corvettes that have achieved both Bloomington Gold Certification and NCRS Top Flight status. It isn’t easy earning either of these awards, so if you are going for the Gold this weekend and have already achieved an NCRS Top Flight award, or are planning on it after scoring your Bloomington Gold, you need to plan on joining us November 22-23!

Our Triple Diamond award, a beautiful heavy crystal that has your name and the serial number engraved on it, is clearly one of the most prestigious awards in the Corvette world...truly a Crowning achievement, and one of the fastest growing parts of the MCACN show. Each year we host the best of the best in a very special display, set up in chronological order to highlight the history of the Corvette. We hope you will plan on joining us, as this is yet another “show within a show” at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals! Since our inception, our Corvette Central Triple Diamond Gallery has played host to over 200 of the finest Corvettes from 1953- 1996, and most have earned Corvette Central Triple Diamond status.
Congrats to all of you, and good luck to our future contenders!

I would also like to congratulate the 2014 Inductees for the final year of the Bloomington Gold Great Hall. Among this elite group are several long time supporters of the MCACN show; Irwin Kroiz, Terry Michaelis, the National Corvette Museum and our good friend Ronnie Kaplan, who we lost this year.
While you are at Bloomington Gold, make it a point to visit some of the MCACN Official Sponsors displays and thank them for supporting what we do, and also for their participation in the festivities in Champaign. This includes Corvette Central, Reliable Carriers, DFT Detailing, Mid America Motorworks, D&M Corvette Specialists, Carlisle Events, Car Art by David Snyder, Dana Forrester Art and of course, our Official MCACN Presenting Sponsor, Bill Stasek Chevrolet.
Over in Flint, Michigan, The Sloan Museum and Auto Fair, Official Sponsors of our Class of ‘63 last year and our very special Pace Car Invitational display this year, are geared up and ready for their huge annual event. The Sloan Auto Fair draws cars and people from all over. Of course, there are plenty of Buick’s, but there is such a huge variety of cars and motorcycles, that there is really something for everyone. They also have a long list of related activities including a swap meet, two Cruise-Ins, special featured displays celebrating 50th Anniversary of the GTO and 50 years of the Muscle Car. They also have stuff for the kids with a model car make and take and some cool automotive discussion panels with very special guests. This event is nothing but pure fun for the whole family, and also offers a chance to see what the Sloan Museum is all about. There is a whole lot of history at this museum, which includes lots of great cars and way too much more to list. The Sloan Museum is much more than a car museum, so plan on joining us this weekend! For directions, information and everything you need to know, check out the Sloan Auto Fair website; http://www.sloanautofair.com/index.html
No matter where you are, there are some great events to attend. Consider taking some of your “non car freak” friends along and some kids too!
