EyesOn Design Show to Feature Several MCACN “Alumni” This Weekend
Some of you know that in addition to my real job as Managing Member of the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, I am also involved with several very prestigious Detroit area events. This year I am serving as the Co-Chairman for the 26th Annual EyesOn Design show, a benefit for the Detroit institute of Opthalmology, and I also handle several categories for the Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John, (formerly known as the Meadowbrook Concours) that will take place July 28. Today I would like to tell you about the past MCACN participants that will be featured at the EyesOn Design show, which will be held this Sunday, Fathers Day, at the beautiful Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores, MI.
setting is picture perfect, and this show is like no other. With a
Concours type format on the lush lawn of the Estate, the breezes come in
off the Detroit river, and there are plenty of trees to provide shade. The
cars, motorcycles and boats, (nearly 300 this year!) are strategically
placed throughout the grounds, with each category telling a story based on
design. Evolution over Revolution
is the theme, and you will see a wide variety, with many vehicles side by
side showing major design changes. The show has a wide array of full
classics, some brass era cars, plenty of 40’s/50’s and 60’s cars and this
year, a group of finely restored wood Chris Craft boats. We even have a
Tuner category, (which I personally coordinate) and of course, an awesome
group of some of the finest Muscle
Cars ever seen in the
area that I also handle. In this group of nearly 20 cars, I am proud to
say many are past MCACN
participants who are coming in from several states. We have Jim
Papash showing his ‘64 Pontiac 2+2 next to Richard Larabee’s ‘67 2+2,
Jerry Papesh showing his 1970 GTO convertible, Larry Weymouth joining us
with his S/S AMX, as seen in last years AMC/Ya display and Jeff Filz will
show his Big Bad Orange 1970 Mark Donahue Javelin, as seen in last years
“Trans Am Terrors” display. And of course,
Nickey will be
represented by Denny Barker with a gorgeous
Nickey Super Camaro
that you saw at MCACN
last year! And
to top things off, the beautiful Tucker that was on display in our lobby
in 2011 from the Stahl Automotive Collection is the featured car, and it
adorns the poster, created by past MCACN Featured Artist Steven Macy This is just a sampling of what you will see, and rest assured
each and every one is a beauty. Oh, and there’s more; you remember
the big display from Lingenfelter Performance Engineering/Karl Kustoms
that was at MCACN
last year, right? Well,
Ken Lingenfelter will be opening up his incredible collection for all
participants and spectators as a fund raiser for the
DIO. You will be able
to see well over 100 cars from Ken’s personal collection, all with no
ropes or barriers. This is an
amazing private collection filled with muscle cars, Corvettes
and some of the wildest Exotics you will ever see. Think Bugatti Veyron,
Ferrari F40 and F50 and....well, you get the idea! This is open to the
only, so please plan on joining us.
And it gets even better; you can purchase a “combined” discount ticket that will get you in to both the Lingenfelter Collection viewing on Saturday AND the EyesOn Design show on Sunday for just $20. If you can only make one or the other, you can pick up a Saturday ticket at the door for $15 or a Sunday show ticket for $20 at the gate. Hopefully you can make both events, but either one is well worth seeing! Our thanks go out to our MCACN participants who will be joining us and THANKS for helping me support a very worthy cause. June is a super busy month for anyone into cars, and after this weekend we are gearing up for the big Bloomington Gold Corvette event, June 27-29. It is a year of change, with the move to Champaign, and Guy Larsen, CEO and new owner, has lots in store with plenty of improvements. Guy and his team are geared up and he tells me registration is UP in nearly all area’s!
One of the reasons for the move was to get back to the cool GoldTour, and Guy tells me they are really excited about this. Begun in 1984, this FREE event highlights the weekend for many Corvette drivers.
The GoldTour will wind through the countryside and then double back to pass (and wave to) oncoming Corvettes. The tour ends in downtown Champaign where over 60 restaurants, shops and bars will be prepared to serve Bloomington Gold enthusiasts. Coincidentally, a Blues Festival is being held a few blocks away. Best of all, the GoldTour is somewhat “off the beaten path” and there is absolutely NO construction or traffic issues to contend with. There is still time to sign up for the FREE GoldTour, so if you want to add some driving fun to a great weekend, click here
One more thing; we have been very fortunate to feature some incredible cars from “The Collection” over the past few years. Again this year, cars from this private collection will be shown, including a VERY special Camaro that will be unveiled Saturday morning, and several very special Roadrunners. Anyway, our good friend Kevin Oeste of V8TV has been allowed exclusive access to “The Collection”, and has launched a brand new weekly online show called Muscle Car of the Week.
If you have enjoyed seeing the Trans Am convertibles, the ‘70 and ‘71 Hemi Cuda convertibles and other prime cars that have been seen at MCACN from “The Collection” over the past few years, you need to add this weekly online show to your favorites!
Hope to see you soon...Happy and safe travels and THANKS for your continued support!
