MCACN 2013 Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race Display
As anyone who has ever been to the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show knows, we don’t sit back and rest. Our team is always looking for ways to keep things interesting...and unpredictable! This year, I am proud to announce we have joined up with some great guys (and girls!) from the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race to put together a display that will be like no other. You see, the PSMCDR folks like nothing more than to do exactly what these cars were built for; burning rubber on the track! But unlike many other people with Muscle Cars that are occasionally taken to the track, these examples are all the real deal and they are all show ready. Yep...no dogs in this pack! To quote their website, The Pure Stock Drags™ is a heart-pumping, octane-boosting race for stock muscle cars. The cars must be built like when they rolled off the assembly line, with few modifications. The result is a wide variety of beautiful, high-quality cars—
that do more than sit in the garage.

2013 MCACN Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race Display
Imagine seeing a beautiful white and gold ‘69 Hurst/Olds line up against a saturn yellow ‘70 GSX Buick. Maybe a 427 powered Impala SS next to a 2+2 Pontiac. How about a pristine ‘66 Corvette next to a 427 powered ‘69? That is what you’ll see at a PSMCDR event! And don’t be surprised when a ‘64 Max Wedge lines up against a Hemi Mopar, or even an SC/Rambler lined up against an L78 Nova, or....well, you get the idea! So where does this fit in to the MCACN show? Well, a few of us were talking about how nice some of these cars are, and how surprised people are when they see what they think are “trailer queens” being used the way they were meant to be used. Fact is, most of these cars would do quite well in judging, and since the rules call for the cars to be the real deal and appear exactly as they did when they left the assembly line, (right down to the bias ply skinny little tires on many of them) they really are something worth seeing. So Rusty Small, (aka Rusty Tires), Dan Jensen and Donny Brass got together and have gathered up an assortment of top notch cars from the PSMCDR series for our enjoyment. You will see an even dozen including Rusty’s ‘69 Hurst/Olds, Donny’s ‘66 L79 Corvette, Roberta Vasilow’s national award winning ‘70 Buick GSX, Mark Weymouth’s 1970 Trans Am Javelin, Jody Traylor’s ‘74 GTO and Paul Vitale’s 1967 SS 427 impala, as seen in Hemmings Muscle Machines. And that’s just half of them! Also included in the group is a ‘64 Max Wedge Plymouth, a post body ‘69 Chevelle, a K-code ‘66 Mustang and more. Whew...what a lineup!
These folks know how to have fun, and they will be showing video footage of these cars doing what they do best. The cars will be lined up exactly as they are raced, and the owners will be on hand ready to tell you how this series works. And here’s some insight; this reminds me a lot of the “old days” when one racer never hesitated to lend a hand, a tool or even parts to keep another on the track. The shared knowledge is incredible and the bottom line is, everybody has fun. To get an inside look at what PSMCDR is all about, check out their website at www.purestockdrags.com. On the site, you’ll see a bunch of YouTube video’s of actual races with some amazing cars, including some of the cars mentioned above. Oh..and if you want to check it out before the show, the actual Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race event will be taking place September 12-14, 2013 at the beautiful Mid Michigan Motorplex in Stanton, Michigan. Go to the website for all the details, and when you’re there, be sure to say THANKS to the crew for joining us this year at MCACN V.
