MCACN CELEBRATES THE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE CHRYSLER HEMI
PRESENTED BY MAGNUM AUTO RESTORATIONS, INC.
1964 was an incredible year for the auto industry, especially if you are performance minded. Fact is, there are actually too many firsts to list in this e-mail, but some deserve special recognition. For the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, there are several things that simply can not go unnoticed. Of course, we will host our Class of ‘64 Invitational display, with a variety of 1964 model year muscle cars and Corvettes. You’ll see Max Wedges, 409’s, 427 R-code Fords and more. (We’ll talk about that one later!) Of course the introduction of Pontiacs iconic GTO came about with the ‘64 model year, so we will host a special gathering of 64-74 GTO’s, featuring the absolute finest and rarest, including Tenney Fairchild’s famous 1964 Car and Driver GTO. And then there is the Barracuda and the Mustang, which ushered in the Pony Car era. And who can forget the Chevelle? Whew...1964 was quite a year!
Today we are talking about what is without a doubt one of the hottest introductions, and we would also like to introduce one of our newest Official Sponsors. Yes...it was 1964 when Chrysler starting offering the 426 Hemi to anyone savvy enough to check the right boxes at their local Dodge or Plymouth dealership. With a desire to dominate racing, the outrageous 426 Hemi was launched by Mother Mopar as a factory option package, and the rest, as they say, is history! Of course, you know the MCACN team would not let this slide by unnoticed, and the call was put out to owners of some of finest 1964-1971 Hemi cars ever built. To make things even better, it just so happens that our friends over in LaSalle, Illinois, Magnum Auto Restorations, Inc. recently settled into their new facilities filling nearly 10,000 square feet, and they are currently deep into the restoration of one of the rarest and most desirable 426 Hemi beasts ever built! This particular 1970 Hemi Superbird is a 4 speed, color is FJ5 Limelight Green with white bucket seats and interior and it has only 14,000 original miles. The current owner bought it in 1972. The motor had spun a bearing and it was placed in the trunk! The car itself is complete with the numbers matching motor and transmission, and the only rust to be found was in the trunk floor from the engine being in there, (when stored, the trunk would not close all the way.) The car is being restored back to its original glory right now, and it will be completed for its unveiling at MCACN in November. After talks of the Official Unveiling of this winged warrior, owner Mark Sekula and his team decided it was time to really make a statement by becoming our Official Sponsor of the 2014 MCACN HEMI Invitational display. Yep...on the left side of our big HEMI Invitational display, Mark and the Magnum Auto Restorations, Inc. team will be pulling the wraps of this freshly restored and first time shown ‘Hemi Bird Saturday morning, November 22!
Being a top notch full service restoration shop with a penchant for the Pentastar, you know this one will be a beauty! We are honored to have Mark and the crew on board, as they have been supporters of the MCACN show since our inception. With eight Gold Concours awards earned over the past few years on a variety of Mopars, last year they shook things up by showing a gorgeous 1966 GTO, set up among several prime Mopars. When the dust settled, once again they were presented a Gold Concours award for not only several of the Mopars, but the GTO as well, proving that these guys do it right! Although you may think they are the “new kids on the block”, fact is they have been restoring, parting, and assembling cars for over 20 years, so they know where and how the parts work. What you will get from Magnum Auto Restorations, Inc. is professional service, attention to detail, and a well thought out process from people that share your love of cars, and realize your car is your pride and joy. You really need to talk to Mark and his team to see what they can do for you, no matter what make or model you own. They do it all, from small repairs and upgrades to full rotisserie show winning Concours restorations. To learn more about Magnum Auto Restorations, Inc. check out their website at www.magnumautoresto.com. Oh...and that GTO? Mark and his crew will be joining me in the Detroit area with that one for a special GTO display at the upcoming Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John, July 27! Help us welcome Magnum Auto Restorations, Inc. to our fine family of Official Sponsors, which includes some of the absolute finest restoration shops in the country.
