STUDEBAKERS OFFER YET ANOTHER REASON TO COME TO THE MCACN SHOW!
Last November at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, we hosted two beautiful examples of Studebaker Muscle for the very first time. To say the Paxton supercharged Avanti and the Paxton supercharged Lark that were featured in our “Class of ‘63” Invitational display were a hit would be a major understatement! Many didn’t even know that Studebaker actually produced performance models, but fact is, they were competitive in quite a few types of racing, and set many records in a variety of different area’s. Regular appearances at the Bonneville Salt Flats dating back to the 50’s, a wide variety of Gasser style drag racers and of course, slippery Avanti’s were often seen beating up on unsuspecting racers, who never saw it coming!
Ed and Cindy George are what you might call Studebaker aficionado's. They showed their beautiful 1963 supercharged Avanti with us last year, and are always ready to spread the word about South Bends finest. They own a nice collection of Studebaker products, and they will again be joining us with one of the fine cars from their collection. Right behind Ed and Cindy at our 2013 show was Eric DeRosa with his subtle looking supercharged Lark. When you talk about a “sleeper” you can certainly picture his Lark! Being a rather plain looking 2-door hardtop with a color known as Rose Mist, I am sure that many an unsuspecting muscle car owner ended up seeing some unfamiliar taillights!
With that being said, we are very excited to say that Ed and Cindy are helping us coordinate a very special display this year for the MCACN show, featuring Performance Model Studebakers. You will see more Avanti’s and Larks, some with the factory installed Paxton blowers under the hood, and of course, some really unexpected variations of Studey Muscle. This one is going to be a whole lot of fun!
And so, this weekend we will be heading out to spread the word and recruit some Studebakers out in South Bend, Indiana. Each year the Michiana Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club hosts a big car show and swap meet at the St. Joseph 4H Fairgrounds. Actually, they pretty much take over the entire South Bend area with a variety of activities and a Downtown Cruise-In Saturday night. South Bend is the home of the Studebaker Museum too, and they also participate in the festivities. The show actually combines two shows in one with the Studebaker-Packard Concours d’Elegance and an Open Collector Car and Truck Show. Things kick off Friday, May 2nd but the big shows take place Saturday, May 3rd. The MCACN crew will have a display set up inside near the registration table, where we’ll be accepting applications and talking about the show. We’ll also have a special free prize drawing and some MCACN wearables, so plan on upgrading your summer wardrobe with one of our past event t-shirts! For all the information on the weekends festivities, check out the Michiana Chapter Studebaker Drivers club event page;
