The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show may be best known for our special displays. Some, like our Anniversary displays, repeat annually but always with new (old) cars. One of our most popular area’s, and one that is certainly a lot of fun, is our Barn Find/Hidden Gems section. Started several years ago and hosted by The Automotive Archeologist, Ryan Brutt, you never know what to expect. This feature has been so well received that Muscle Car Review magazine did an entire feature just on this section of our show in the May issue! Last year this section featured nearly 30 cars. This included several Shelby’s, an AAR ‘Cuda, a W-31 Olds race car with mileage under 100, an altered wheelbase Chevelle, several GTO’s and Corvettes and of course, the two very real Boss 429 Mustang drag racers, with one shown on the back of a vintage Ford car hauler. As if that wasn’t enough, we also had an incredible vintage miniature promo Corvette. Whew...what a lineup!

Once again, the search is on to find and dig out the rarest of the rare and give the owners a reason to bring them out. Some of these cars will be unexpected treasures, like the unusual ‘68 L79 Malibu shown at top that you will see this year, and some will be old race cars that were packed away for one reason or another. If you own something that is an example of real Detroit muscle or perhaps a retired old race car, and it has been packed away, please consider joining us. We don’t want your unfinished project car, we want rare examples that have not seen the light of day for a long time. Perhaps the years just got away or maybe you were the fortunate person to find it hidden away!

We all dream of finding that elusive Hemi or LS6 car hidden in the barn or an old garage, and we have been fortunate to have the owners of many of these dream cars join us. Consider this; many of the cars shown in this area don’t run, and many have not been washed for 20 or more years. We have seen our share of bird droppings (and worse) and in many cases, the rougher they are, the more attention they get! Do you remember the ‘68 Yenko 427 Camaro that Andy from the Albaugh Collection brought in last year? At first glance, it looked like any other older modified Camaro, but was a real-deal 427 Yenko Super Camaro that somehow managed to be hidden away for years! How about the Boss 429 Cougar Eliminator that Ed Meyer showed with us in 2013? Ed found the basic remains of that one languishing in a field after years of chasing leads, and we look forward to hosting it again in the future, fully restored.

Whatever the reason, if you are fortunate enough to own something that has a great story, is a true rarity or has interesting real race history and it is, well...not necessarily pretty, the MCACN Barn Finds/Hidden Gems display area is the place to be. It is also a great place to show something that you found and plan on restoring, before you start the restoration. (And here’s a 2016 preview. Remember that orange 69.5 440-6 pack Super Bee with the primer fender? Look for it next year as one of our Official Unveiling cars, fully restored!)
