MCACN JOINS FORCES WITH MARCH OF DIMES FOR A 1970 OLDS RALLYE 350 GIVEAWAY
Many friends of MCACN know Jeff Stolowski, the owner of the real 1970 Oldsmobile 442 Official Pace Car that was on display at MCACN back in 2011. Others know the car from its cover story feature in the May 2012 issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine. You see, Jeff considers himself one of the luckiest guys in the world, kind of like a lottery winner when he realizes he holds the winning ticket. A few years ago, a friend of Jeff’s called to tell him about an old beat up 442 convertible he stumbled across while doing some “picking.” Although the car was rough, it was described as complete, and Jeff’s friend was convinced that it was indeed a real 442, and it was, shall we say, cheap! Jeff told him to buy it (sight-unseen), hoping that it would indeed be a 442, but knowing that at the price, he couldn’t loose, even if it ended up as a parts car. “I was just hoping it was a real 4-4-2 because I had never owned one,” Jeff said.
When Jeff first inspected the Olds, he noticed several unusual features; some funny looking grab handles, stripes that were painted instead of vinyl and more. Being a long time Oldsmobile enthusiast, his first order was to check the VIN and data plate, hoping for the “344“ designation, indicating it was a 442. Well, the tags were indeed intact and jackpot; they read “344” as clear as day! As if that wasn’t enough, Jeff soon found out it was not just any 442, but one of the two actual Indianapolis 500 Official Pace Cars. Not a Pace Car replica, which is in itself rare, but the real thing! He knew he had to step to the window, do some serious research and bring this one back to its’ former glory. Being a regular guy and not a “big bucks” collector, he felt that this opportunity was much like winning the lotto, as he felt he would never have had the opportunity to own such a historical (and valuable) automobile. After talking to his wife JoHanna and acknowledging just how lucky he is, they decided to give something back....and that is where the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals comes into the picture! Jeff knew this could be something much bigger then he could handle, so he asked for some input from me. We met and talked about how doing something for an outstanding charity while also offering a chance to really impact someone’s life would be a great way to “pay it back.” That is how the “Great American Muscle Car Giveaway” was born! For 2013, a really sharp and very real 1970 Oldsmobile Rallye 350 will be on display at the MCACN show, November 23-24. In addition, the 1970 Olds 442 Official Pace Car replica that is the 2014 giveaway car, (one of 624 built) will be unveiled, fresh from a restoration by Troy Thorton. At about 7:00 pm Saturday, November 23rd, the winning raffle ticket will be pulled at Cherry Capital Cadillac-Subaru in Traverse City, Michigan, and simultaneously, the winner will be announced by a very special guest onsite right at the MCACN show. 100% of the proceeds from the ticket sales go directly to the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. In Michigan, the March of Dimes spends .88˘ of every dollar to support research and programs that help babies begin healthy lives. This means that YOU may go home from the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals with your very own Rallye 350, and all who purchase a ticket will be helping an outstanding cause...everybody wins!
This Saturday, April 13, the Great American Muscle Car Giveaway will be launched with a special kick-off party in Traverse City, Michigan at the Fox Motors Mercedes-Benz dealership from 4 pm – 6 pm. In addition to a special viewing of the 2013 Rallye 350 Giveaway car, you will also be able to see the 2014 Official Pace Car replica giveaway car pre-restoration, before it heads out to Troy Thorton Restorations, AND the outstanding and very real 1970 442 Official Pace Car. Remember, Jeff’s car is the actual car that led the race and carried race winner Al Unser to the winners circle celebration! In addition, there will be a silent auction with some cool memorabilia including autographed jerseys and some great automobilia. Food and drinks will be served and March of Dimes representatives will be on hand offering Raffle tickets for this cool car at $10 a piece. As if that isn’t enough reason to join us, Jeff also tells us he’ll have some very special guests coming in, including GM Engineer and original engine builder Don Morrow, who was a key player in the building of Jeff’s car back in the day. Get the inside scoop right from the source!
Please consider joining us this Saturday to meet Jeff, JoHanna and the March of Dimes reps. Fox Motors has also extended the invite to all specialty car and motorcycle owners to show off your pride and joy with a special display area surrounding the showroom, and the first 50 car and bike owners will get a free T-shirt! The Rallye 350, the replica Pace Car and Jeff’s Pace Car will all be on display inside their beautiful showroom, and available for pictures. Jeff and JoHanna also welcome all members of the family, and are happy to let the kids get their picture taken inside any of the cars. You know we always like to plant the seed early! Inside, there will be plenty of food, drinks and the silent auction, and a variety of other things to see and do.
Of course, if you can’t make it, you will see the Rallye 350 car and be able to buy a ticket (and maybe even take it home!) at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Rosemont, (greater Chicago), Illinois. If you can’t wait, Jeff will also be touring the car between now and our show, and tickets can be purchased now directly from the March of Dimes by calling Gina Schulz at 1-855-SET-PACE or by e-mailing her at firstname.lastname@example.org. In addition to presenting this 1970 Oldsmobile Rallye 350 at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show and announcing the winner of the inaugural Great American Muscle Car Giveaway, November 23-24, we will also host Jeff’s authentic 1970 Olds 442 Pace Car in a special gathering of documented real Pace Cars. The replica 2014 giveaway Pace Car, will be unveiled immediately after the drawing for the Rallye 350 Saturday evening. How’s that for some exciting news!
