MID AMERICA MOTORWORKS CHIEF CHEERLEADER MIKE YAGER TO SHOW XP 819 CORVETTE AT

Mid America Motoroworks
I often talk about how fortunate we are to be able to work with some of the best in the industry who are our Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Sponsors. Not only are they cool people, but they simply “get it” and like us, live and breathe our hobby. This weekend, we have an opportunity for you to get an idea of what I mean when I say that. As many of you know, this weekend the Amelia Island Concours will be taking place. One of the country’s most prestigious events in an idyllic setting, and one not to miss. For Mid America Motorworks “Chief Cheerleader” Mike Yager, it will be one to remember. You see, back in 2002, Mike was able to secure what remained of the XP-819 Corvette. This unusual rear-engine design study, originally penned by Larry Shinoda, was saved from the crusher by Smokey Yunick. Mike had a plan to eventually bring it back to its original glory and display it in the MY Garage Collection at the Mid America Motorworks campus in Effingham, Illinois. Well, after some research and restoration, the decision was made to turn this bit of history over to noted Corvette restorer, (and long time supporter of the MCACN show), Kevin McKay of Corvette Repair, Inc. Now, restoring a one-off car like this is no easy task, and it would take several years and a considerable amount of fabricating to bring this one back. Clearly, Mike made the right choice in handing this over to Kevin!

So this weekend, on the sunny shores of Florida, you will be able to see the progress that has been made when Mike and Kevin present an inside peak of the XP-819 Corvette, as it will be shown as a drivable chassis. If you were at MCACN last November, you were treated to another of Kevin’s “inside view” creations with Ed Foss’s cutaway ‘65 Corvette. Correct down to the smallest possible detail, we can be assured that the XP-819 Corvette will also be a work of rolling art! For information on the Amelia Island Concours see www.ameliaconcours.org. Another event worth checking out this weekend is the Corvette/Chevy Expo in Houston, Texas. Purchased several years ago by our friends Bill and Bonnie Wolf, publishers of Vette Vues magazine, this event has grown by leaps and bounds and is one of the hottest ALL Chevy and Corvette events in the country. With several hundred cars and lots of vendors all indoors at the George R. Brown Convention Center, you don’t want to miss this one! Expect to see a wide variety of Chevy’s finest, both stock and modified, along with a big swap area, and I also hear that the Sunday Miss Corvette Chevy Expo contest is lots of fun too! www.corvettechevyexpo.com for all the information.

Bill Stasek Chevrolet MCACN 2012

While we are on the subject of Corvettes, we want to mention that our Presenting Sponsor, Bill Stasek Chevrolet, has some great deals on their remaining stock of 2013 Corvettes, including several Callaways, and they have over 50 in stock right now. And the most important thing is, in addition to great deals, Bill and his team talk the talk and know Corvettes in and out! Whether you want one of the 2013’s or are thinking about the all new C7 that everyone is talking about, this is the place to buy. Go to www.stasekchevrolet.com to learn about the Stasek Chevrolet Advantage, because there really IS a difference! Oh...and while you’re there, check out the C7 Corvette reveal right on their website.

Registration is now open through our website and we are accepting applications for cars, muscle bicycles and vendors. We also have sponsor opportunities, so if you would like to be a part our 5th Anniversary Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show on November 23-24, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention center in Rosemont, (greater Chicago), Illinois, it is not too soon to get the ball rolling! Our website also has direct links for special deals at all four of our host hotels.

Next week; we’ll tell you what the Wellborn Muscle Car Museum is up to for 2013.

THANKS for your continued support!
