MCACN “Class of 1964” 50th Anniversary Invitational Display Taking Shape!
We are now another month closer to the 6th Annual Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, which will take place November 22-23, at the beautiful Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, (greater Chicago), Illinois. For many of us, looking at our cars means a visit to the garage and pulling back the cover, where they are safely tucked away from the elements. If you are fortunate enough to not be dealing with the cold and snow, well let me just say...I’m jealous!
The MCACN team has confirmed many of our Invitational and Special displays for 2014, and over the next few weeks we will be telling you about them. As you know, these displays showcase the absolute best of the best and the rarest of the rare. This is where you will see many cars that are rarely seen by the public, from private collections that join us from across the country. Each and every one of these cars is something special, and in many cases, worth the price of admission alone for the opportunity to see them and meet the owners. Outstanding cars and awesome people that would love to tell you all about them!
This week we would like to talk about our 50th Anniversary “Class of 1964” Invitational display. This one is coming together in a big way with some unexpected surprises in store. Of course, 1964 was a significant year for Muscle Car enthusiasts for many reasons; the launch of Chryslers 426 Hemi, the introduction of the Pontiac GTO and Fords Mustang are among the highlights. You can bet these milestones will be celebrated, not only in this display but additional special gatherings this year. As mentioned, 1964 was the year that Mother Mopar made the outrageous 426 Hemi available to just about anyone who knew their way around an order sheet. Although very few were actually sold, the 426 Hemi certainly did exactly what it set out to do, which is make a major impact on both the Nascar and Drag Racing world. Nobody can dispute the fact that auto racing would never be the same after the introduction of this instantly recognized engine. So with that being said, expect to see several of the finest original factory built 1964 426 Hemi cars from both Dodge and Plymouth. But wait....things get even better for Hemi fans this year! (more on that in the coming weeks)

We have some other really cool stuff lined up for this display. Those who know me know that I love the big body performance cars, especially the ones with a big block and a 4-speed. Well...how would you like to see not just one, not even two, but a whole row of 1964 R-code 427 4-speed Galaxie convertibles? Seeing even one of these is cool, but we have confirmed four of them, all documented real 427 R-code cars, several of which are being restored as we speak. Whew...what a sight! Of course this is just the beginning of what will be on display. If you own a real 409 powered Chevy, a Max Wedge Mopar, maybe a 2+2 Pontiac or dual quad Buick Riviera or Wildcat, a Paxton supercharged Studebaker or maybe even a 427 powered Mercury, please consider being a part of this very special gathering. We also have several very real ‘64 vintage drag cars lined up and would certainly like to see some more, so let us know what you have. As is the case with all of our invitational displays, cars must be real documented factory built examples, absolutely no “clones” or “tributes.” Just like Coca-Cola, this is all about being The Real Thing!

Chicagoland Mopar Connection Annual Swap Meet UPDATE. Due to all of the snow and crazy weather, the swap meet this coming Sunday, February 9, has been postponed to a date TBD.
This isn’t the biggest, but it is always one of our favorites, where we get a chance to spend some quality time with past and hopefully future MCACN participants and spectators. The swap will be located at Larry Roesch Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge. For updates on the new date, directions and more information, go to www.chicagolandmopar.com and we hope to see you there when they lock in the new date. Special Thanks go out to our friends at CMC, as they are huge supporters of what we do, are the hosts of the Mopar Alley display at our show each year and several members are also on our staff and judging team!
We are now accepting applications for cars and automotive only vendors for our 2014 show. If you have a car that may be suitable for one of our special displays, please contact me with pictures and documentation for consideration. We are updating our website on a regular basis with a list of the special and invitational displays and show features as they are confirmed. If you have any suggestions or feedback, we would love to hear from you, as this is a show for enthusiasts, run by enthusiasts! Also, please be sure to follow our facebook page and “like” us, as I do updates nearly every day. Previous vendor letters go out next week for same space reservation.
