Sneak Peek 2013 Show*
1963 “Silver Arrow” Bill Mitchell Styling Car
MCACN Class of 1963 Invitational
Sponsored by the Sloan Museum Auto Fair
In addition to my real job as Managing Member of the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, I wear several additional hats. I am part of the Vehicle Selection Committee for the prestigious Concours d’Elegance of America (formerly known as the Meadowbrook Concours) and this year will serve as the Chairman for the annual EyesOn Design event, a benefit for the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology. In working with these events, I have been able to meet and work with some really great people. Last year, Al Rogers, our Official MCACN Photographer, introduced me to a fine young gentleman from the Sloan Museum in Flint, Michigan. Jacob Gilbert has the same kind of enthusiasm as I have for cars, related history and the people of the industry. He is committed to bringing more awareness to the Sloan Museum and also their Auto Fair, which is an outstanding event they host in Flint. The 2014 event will take place June 28-29, and it is a definite “must do” event no matter what brand you like.
Anyway, last June Jacob brought out a very significant car to the EyesOn Design show that quite simply, blew me away. The “Silver Arrow” is a special one-off Bill Mitchell design study that exemplifies Mitchell’s style. This 1963 Buick Riviera, with a subtle chopped top and a long list of modification, it is so well executed, that you really have to spend some time looking at it. You know it isn’t a stock Rivvy, but it is hard to see why! After talking to Jacob and telling him about the MCACN show, we both knew this car needed to be a part of our “Class of ‘63” 50th Anniversary display, and that our show was a great way for him to spread the word about the Sloan Museum and the Auto Fair. And so...that is where it started. Today, I am pleased to announce that the Sloan Museum Auto Fair is our Official Sponsor of the “Class of ‘63” and they will be showing this incredible car. “We’re really excited to be a part of the show. We know that we can spread the word about both the Sloan Museum and our Auto Fair at MCACN to many people who may not know about us, or what we do,” Gilbert stated. I couldn’t agree more! And that’s not all...you see, the Sloan Museum also has some very significant and very real, (as in led the race) Official Pace Cars in their collection. Some of you may know that we will be hosting a very special gathering of real Pace Cars in 2014, and with the Sloan connection...well, we can talk about 2014 later! The museum has an incredible collection of Buick’s and related memorabilia and a whole lot more, including an awesome special display that is running right now called Return of the Dinosaurs. You will also want to check out the Longway Planetarium! You see, there is a whole lot more than just Buick’s at the Sloan Museum. Be sure to make a point of meeting Jacob and his crew in the Class of ‘63 Invitational display and learn more about what is happening out in Flint, Michigan.
