426 HEMI, CELEBRATING THE 50th ANNIVERSARY + THE GOLDEN COMMANDO’S!
As the countdown continues for the upcoming Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, we have so much to talk about, it is hard to decide where to start. With that being said, today we want to talk HEMI, and let you know some of the highlights we have in store for HEMI enthusiasts for the weekend of November 22-23.
With TEN unveilings scheduled for Saturday morning, you had to know there would be some Hemi’s in there! MCACN sponsors American Muscle Car Restorations, Inc. out of Rhode Island and Magnum Restorations out of Illinois are both finishing up HEMI Superbirds as this is being written. See them both uncovered for the very first time after lengthy restorations, Saturday morning!
50th Anniversary Hemi Invitational Presented by
To say this one will be fun is a major understatement. As always, we weren’t going for quantity, but quality! I am especially pleased to announce we have SIX 1964 426 Hemi Dodges and Plymouths between this display and the Class of 1964, which is certainly unheard of. Think about it....have you ever seen a real factory built 1964 426 Hemi Mopar up close and in person? And we don’t stop there; each and every year from 1964-1971 is represented with the finest and rarest examples in existence. A few highlights; ever see a four door Hemi car? How about the one and only Coronet R/T Hemi 4-speed sold in Canada? You will see them at MCACN! And whether you like E-bodies or B-Bodies, Dodge or Plymouth, I assure you, this display will blow you away.
GOLDEN COMMANDO’S RACE TEAM
The Golden Commando’s were responsible for all kinds of drag racing history when it was hotter than hot. We are thrilled to be able to host SIX of the original team members, who will be joining us from across the country. Come out and meet the guys and hear how it really was “back in the day” when the factory truly was committed to Racing on Sunday and Selling on Monday. Special Thanks go out to Team Member Ray Kobe for making this happen and also to Mopar Collectors Guide staffers Shirley Bencaz and Tim Costello.
CLASS OF 1964
Many of you have seen our ads and postcards featuring Irwin Kroiz awesome Bill “Maverick” Golden Hemi Dodge that will be featured. This is just one of several factory drag cars you will see in this area.. and again several of them are factory 426 Hemi cars!
COLOR MY WORLD INVITATIONAL
So what is even cooler than checking the box for one of the cool “High-Impact” colors for your Mopar? Checking the HEMI box too! Yep...even more Hemi powered beasts will be found in this display, which is sponsored by The Wellborn Muscle Car Museum and G&L Guitars. How about a freshly restored Spring Green ‘69 Daytona or an Omaha Orange ‘69 Runner? Check-check! Prefer E-bodies? How about a 1970 Plum Crazy Purple Challenger R/T or a Pilot ‘71 Challenger R/T in Butterscotch? Checkeroo! And that is just the beginning. With the new Muscle Car Review Magazine on the stands now, you probably saw the awesome Limelight ‘70 Superbird on the cover with the other MCACN cars. That one will be in the MCR Cover Cars special “display within a display” and yep...it is indeed a very real unrestored original powered by the venerable 426 Hemi!
1971 HEMI ‘CUDA CONVERTIBLE
This won’t be the first time we have played host to a real Hemi ‘Cuda convertible, as we had four of the ‘70’s in 2010, and four of the 71’s in 2011. So this year, we are pleased to announce we have yet another one joining us that has never been to the MCACN show. Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you know that Mecum Auctions recently set the auction and muscle car world on fire with the record setting sale of a B5 Blue 1971 Hemi ‘Cuda convertible. You will find this history making car right up front in one of our “hot spots” at the base of the steps. And here’s a teaser for you; for our 2015 show, we will host a special Showcase display featuring the largest group of 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T and ‘70 and ‘71 Plymouth HEMI ‘Cuda convertibles ever gathered. Already...we have TWELVE of them confirmed!
There is a good chance that by the time you read this, we will be sold out for show entries. ALL of the special displays are full and as of this writing, we had just a few single spots here and there in the outer area’s. If you want to join us, please e-mail car information to me at firstname.lastname@example.org for final approval!
